Taco time
After braving the snow and ice, as we headed downwards in elevation it was like we had ridden from Hoth to Tattooine as freezing cold and snow-covered trees gave way to rocky desert. We stopped at the famous Cameron Indian Trading Post for lunch and tried the delicious Navajo Tacos. thankfully we only ordered the "small" ones though...
As we headed on towards Page, Arizona began to look more like i expected...
A delicious steak dinner (with 'Texas toast') at the local NASCAR-decorated Steakhouse ended the day...

What the deuce?
So as we prepared to set out this morning we were greeted by the following sight...
.......snow!
Hoping to get ahead of the worst of it we rugged up and set off....
Once we got past the Grand Canyon visitor centre and headed towards the East exit the snow stopped and we pulled over for a last look at the Grand Canyon. As we were mounting up a couple of butch New York-sounding lesbians warned us that there was heavy snow ahead....
They weren't kidding!
It was by far the worst conditions I have ever ridden in! My helmet visor was covered in ice and only constant wiping allowed me any visibility at all. Thankfully we eventually got past the worst of it in about an hour as we exited the national park. When we pulled over at a roadside stall for a stretch I asked the Navajo salesman if this was unusual weather. He laughed and told me this is the high desert, it can snow here until late June....!

El Grande Canyon
It was a very cold ride today in overcast weather (I thought Arizona was supposed to be hot!?!) that included a brief detour through another part of Route 66 and a pit stop at the Road Kill Cafe, which was decorated in the manner of a typical American home...
And then it was on to the Grand Canyon itself (which has an IMAX theatre showing the Grand Canyon in 3D. Ben & I theorize that it is a big room full of cinema seats with a huge window behind a curtain...).
The photos don't really do any justice to how amazing the Canyon looks...or how cold it was today!
En route to the canyon we did meet a French couple who asked to have their photo taken with us. They'll probably tell their friends at home that they met "le american bikers!"
